450g Evergreen Foods Original Firm Tofu, pressed and cut into cubes
1 tsp baking soda, adjust accordingly
2 tbsp cornstarch
1.5 tsp garlic powder (or fresh garlic paste)
1 tsp five-spice powder
1/2 tsp white pepper
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp sugar
1/4 cup water
1 tbsp light soy sauce
1 tsp Shaoxing wine (optional, adds depth)
Neutral oil (or sesame oil) to coat before air frying
Step 1: Prep the Tofu
Cut tofu into desired size and pat dry.
Step 2: Marinate
In a bowl, combine water, baking soda, soy sauce, Shaoxing wine, garlic powder, five-spice powder, salt, sugar, white pepper, and cornstarch. Mix into a slurry. Add mixture to tofu cubes and gently toss to coat. Let marinate for 5–10 minutes.
Step 3: Add Oil & Air Fry
Drizzle or spray tofu with neutral oil or sesame oil. Place in an air fryer basket in a single layer. Air fry at 200°C (400°F) for 15 minutes, or until golden and crispy. Enjoy!
