1 block (650g) Evergreen Foods Hard Tofu
Cornstarch, to coat (see notes)
Oil, for frying
2 tbsp light soy sauce
2 tsp sugar or sweetener of choice
1/8 tsp ground black pepper
1 tsp toasted sesame oil
Step 1
Open the tofu packet, remove the tofu from packaging and drain any excess liquid. Slice into thin rectangular pieces.
Step 2
Add some cornstarch onto a plate and lightly coat each piece in the cornstarch.
Step 3
Heat a frypan on medium high heat and coat the base of the pan with oil. Once hot, dust off any excess cornstarch and pop the tofu slices in. Fry for 3-4 minutes or until golden and crispy then flip and repeat on the other side. You will need to do this in 2 or 3 batches depending on the size of your frypan.
Step 4
Once the tofu has cooked on both sides, turn the heat down to low. Mix together the soy sauce, sugar and black pepper. Pour into the pan and toss the tofu in the sauce until evenly coated. Turn off the heat and finish off with the sesame oil.
5. Serve and enjoy!
Notes
*Yes, you can skip the cornstarch step and directly fry in less oil, it’ll still turn out delicious! But the cornstarch step is great for if you want an extra layer of crispy “skin” on the tofu.
